Shannon Christie
Shannon Christie (she/her) is an illustrator, artisan, laser-wielding witch and mental healthcare worker living in Portland, OR. Born in SoCal and transplanted to the PNW as a youngin’, Shannon grew up running around rivers and mountainsides in hot summers, and in cold and dark winters would spend her time incubating and developing her skills, schemes, goals and dreams for the future. She attended the University of Oregon where she majored in Psychology + minored in both Music & Studio Art, and received her Master’s of Applied Psychology in August 2020 from Sacred Heart University.
Her work is highly reflective of her background, exploring themes of the human experience while incorporating elements of whimsicality, witchiness, and surrealism through illustrative digital and laser-cut mediums. She is particularly inspired by ancient symbology, and how drawing an entity/person/place/thing can invoke generations of wisdom and knowledge passed down from the countless hands that have created in devotion to it as well. Additionally, her focuses on both psychology and art in her career give her inspiration and perspective on how a piece moves a person and how creativity connects us all.

INTENTION
“I believe that the creation of art is a radical and rebellious act, and that radical rebelliousness is impossible to separate from it. When I create, I create in homage to the ones who existed before me and the ones who will exist after me, knowing that what I make can move the needle further, even if ever-so-slightly, toward the future I want to see. Toni Cade Bambara once said “the role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible;” I wholeheartedly agree, and I think we can expand that to so many different things. Art is a vehicle to make transformation irresistible. A vehicle to make communication, uprising, inner work, enlightenment, and so much more irresistible. The more we make, the more we see these things manifest.” -Shannon Christie
